How To Transfer Bookmarks From One Computer to Another

Transfer Google Chrome From One Computer To Another

Need to transfer your internet browser bookmarks from one computer to another? This tutorial will show you how. We will cover how to transfer Chrome bookmarks, transfer Firefox bookmarks, and transfer Edge favorites to new computer.

In fact, we will also see how to transfer not just your bookmarks, but everything else as well. After all, if you have a new computer, it is often much more convenient to transfer everything: all files, settings, profiles, bookmarks, emails, accounts and even applications (such as Chrome, Office and others). This can all be done automatically with just a few clicks. We’ll cover that after the tutorial for manual transfer of bookmarks to new PC, but if you prefer to just have everything transferred automatically, click this button:

In order to manually transfer bookmarks to a new computer, you will need to follow these steps.

How to transfer Google Chrome bookmarks from one computer to another

  1. On the old computer (the one you are transferring from), locate the “3 dots” icon in the top right corner of Google Chrome. Click on that icon to open the Preferences menu.
  2. Move your mouse to where it says “Bookmarks” to open the Bookmarks submenu.
  3. Click “Bookmark Manager“.
  4. In the “Bookmark Manager” menu, there is another “3 dots” icon in the top right corner, below the one you’ve used earlier. Click on it, and select “Export Bookmarks“.
  5. Choose where to save your bookmarks into an “export file”. Typically, the easiest way is to save them to a USB drive / USB stick, or you can also save them on the computer itself and then copy them to the new computer via Dropbox / OneDrive (or even email the file to yourself). The bottom line is that you need to somehow make the export file available on the new computer.
  6. From now on, we will be working on the new computer. Open Google Chrome on the new computer, and get to “Bookmark Manager” again, same way as before: click the “3 dots” icon in the top right corner, then hover your mouse over “Bookmarks”, and select “Bookmarks Manager” from the submenu.
  7. In “Bookmark Manager“, click the “3 dots” icon in the top right corner, and select “Import Bookmarks“.
  8. Browse for the export file that you have created in step 5, and click “Open“.
  9. Your bookmarks have now been transferred to your new computer.

Phew! You are finally done.

That was just one small part of what makes a new computer into your computer, of course. To really make the new computer feel like home – without spending days of effort doing so – you can use an automatic transfer software that does the whole thing for you, including Chrome and everything else.

Automatic Transfer of Bookmarks to a New Computer

No matter which browser you use, the easiest way to transfer bookmarks is always to use an automatic transfer software. It doesn’t just transfer bookmarks from one computer to another; it transfers everything you have – programs (such as Chrome or Firefox, Office, Outlook, Quickbooks), profiles, settings (such as bookmarks), and all files. This makes the transfer to your new computer a seamless, automatic process, and you don’t have to spend days on reconfiguring and copying everything.

The most recommended transfer software is Zinstall WinWin, which you can get here.

Compare the steps above to manually transfer just the bookmarks, with the steps to automatically transfer everything:

How to transfer transfer bookmarks from one computer to another – automatically

  1. Run Zinstall WinWin on your old computer (the one you are transferring from).
Note: You can get Zinstall WinWin here.
  2. Run Zinstall WinWin on the new computer
    1. You don’t need to do any configurations for the computers to connect – it’s automatic
    2. Just have both computers connected to same Internet (wireless / wifi / wired)
  3. If you’d like to select which applications and files you want to transfer, press the Advanced menu. If you just want to transfer everything, you don’t need to go to the Advanced menu.
  4. Press “Go” on the new computer to start the transfer

That’s it!

Once the transfer is done, you will have your Chrome / Firefox / Safari all set on the new computer, with your bookmarks, logins, passwords, even your recently viewed websites – just like on the old computer.

And not just Chrome – this transfers your other apps, profiles, settings and files as well.

The new computer will really feel just like home.
