Got a new HP computer? First thing you need to do is transfer your apps, profiles and files from your old PC to the new HP. In this tutorial, we’ll see how to transfer everything from Dell to HP, Lenovo to HP, one HP to another – or any other vendor.
The goal is to make your new HP feel just like the old laptop or desktop. Not just copying a few files; you want to retain your your programs, profiles, accounts, passwords, settings, documents, pictures, music, movies, favorites, and all of your files.
Of course, this works for any make or model of your old computer, and any model of your new HP, such as HP Pavilion, HP ENVY, HP Elite / EliteBook, HP Essentials, OMEN, Spectre, ProBook, HP Gaming and so on.
And it doesn’t matter which Windows you have on the old computer. Even if it’s an older version, you can still transfer (e.g. old Dell Windows 10 to a new HP Windows 11).
There is simply no more need to spend days manually copying data, setting up accounts, reinstalling applications and trying to remember your passwords and configurations. This is all done for you, as this tutorial will show.
There are 3 parts that are important to the transfer:
Let’s see how it is done.
Unlike the olden days, when you had no choice except to spend a couple of days manually copying files, installing programs, setting up accounts, emails, personal settings and preferences – these days, you don’t have to do any of that. There are tools that handle the transfer for you, automatically. We will be using Zinstall WinWin for that (available here).
And here is how it’s done:
That’s it! Once the transfer is done, you will have all of your files, your profiles, accounts, and of course your programs – on your new HP laptop. It’s that easy.
Yes, of course. This works exactly the same regardless of what you have as your old computer. We are simply mentioned Dell and Lenovo because that’s what we are most frequently asked about. But any Windows PC works, such as ASUS to HP, Acer to HP, and so on.
No change at all. You can transfer from a desktop to an HP laptop, from a laptop to an HP desktop and any other combo. Desktop and laptops are different physically, but in terms of how programs and files behave on them – there is little to no difference. So there is no problem to transfer from one to another.
